R&D high-speed Device Engineer

Job description 

As an R&D Engineer specialized in High-speed Devices, you’re part of our Research & Development team. Within this team, you intensively collaborate with our scientists, direct R&D colleagues, product management, and other involved colleagues and departments. it will become your challenge to design, develop and test high-speed devices such as modulators and photodetectors integrated with our InP technology into complex photonic integrated circuits.

Main responsibilities:

• Design and development of integrated high-speed modulator and photodetector building blocks that will be offered to our customers via our PDK
• Development of compact models for these building blocks
• Understanding of our customer needs and able to translate them to high-performance, novel and manufacturable devices
• Setting-up Design of Experiments and analyse large sets of data for the development and qualification of new products
• Participation in improvement projects, 8D’s and /or FMEA’s.

We are looking for a person who has /is

• A PhD in Integrated Photonics, or a PhD in Electrical Engineering or Physics with a focus on Photonics
• Solid knowledge in semiconductors Physics
• Experience in the design of high-speed devices, e.g. at least one of the following: Mach-Zehnder modulators, uni-travelling-carrier photodiodes, electro-absorption modulators
• Simulation experience with tools such as Comsol, Lumerical or similar
• Strong programming skills (e.g. Python) and preferably experience with mask/layout design tools (Klayout, Nazca Design, Synopsis Optodesigner or similar)
• Affinity with semiconductor manufacturing processes. Any fabrication/cleanroom experience is a plus
• Hands-on experience in high-speed device characterization is an advantage
