Internship – Energy Saving Estimation (InP Photonic Integrated Circuits)

Introduction to the topic

Today we estimate that roughly 10% of the global electricity consumption is spent on Data centers (DCN) and their inbound and outbound traffic. Basically, this represents a huge ecological footprint. Soon, Artificial Intelligence (AI) will accelerate the implementation of Moore’s law in fiber-optic traffic even more. As a result, in the coming 5 years, DCN’s will be equipped with more capacity and faster links. Some models even predict that 30% of the global electrical power will be needed by 2030. This outlook will trigger the entire industry to find better ways to construct “greener” interconnects for the entire internet.

SMART Photonics is working on systems that have the potential to reduce the earlier mentioned energy consumption. For SMART Photonics to be able to promote itself as a green company, using such a label needs to be fact based and it is about these facts that we are looking for help.

Requirements

The team is looking for a students who:

• Is studying a master’s degree in Physics; Electronics or equivalent;
• Has great organization and teamwork skill;
• Has great communication skills in English;

The R&D and Product management teams are looking for an intern who is interested to join SMART Photonics for 6 months, 5 days per week. It is possible to work 1 day remotely.
