SMART Photonics is a rapidly growing, ambitious open foundry on InP Photonics. We are unique in offering our customers a Process Design Kit (PDK) which allows them to design complex photonic circuits. Our customers come from a range of market sectors, including telecom/datacom, medical sensing, automotive/lidar and quantum technologies. In our Industrial engineering team, we drive continuous improvement and focus on optimizing our processes. Due to growth of the team and company we are recruiting an Industrial Engineer.

In your new role you will:

  • Conducting Time Studies: Planning, conducting, and analysing time studies to establish standard times for various tasks and processes within the industrial setting.
  • Process Optimization: Analysing production processes and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, solve critical manufacturing issues, reduce waste, and increase productivity.
  • Continuous Improvement: Driving continuous improvement initiatives through the implementation of lean manufacturing principles and other methodologies.

Daily tasks:

  • Assessment and investigation of a Critical manufacturing issue to see if it can be resolved single-handed, if not, creating and executing an attack plan to resolve.
  • Perform impact and risk- and failure analysis on the performance or reliability of the final devices and collaborate across horizontal engineering, vertical engineering, operations, and R&D to ensure alignment.
  • Initiate, coordinate and lead Tiger Teams to solve these critical and high priority manufacturing issues that are cross-functional and complex in nature.
  • Ensure resulting continuous improvements and recommendations are communicated and implemented in the design, process, equipment or manufacturing line.
  • Create summary dashboards on active Incident Protocols so Stakeholders and the leadership team have an up-to-date overview of the ongoing risks and timelines.
  • Prioritization of concurrent investigations to ensure throughput of solutions to the manufacturing organization.
  • Engage and Participate in FMEA, Control Plan and Change Control activities to assess and minimize risks of manufacturing incidents happening.

We are looking for a person who is/has:

  • A Master degree in Electronics, Physics, industrialisation or equivalent.
  • Good understanding of semiconductor processes and production techniques.
  • 2 to 7 years’ experience in a similar role within in the semiconductor industry.
  • Experience with Silicon or InP photonics and/or Knowledge of World Class Operations Management is a Benefit.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-moving and ambiguous environment where we meet deadlines and commitments.
  • Multidisciplinary, engineer who effortlessly works together with various departments in the process of the technological product lifecycle.
  • Excellent analytical (statistical) problem-solving skills/knowledge.
  • Programming/scripting experience for data extraction and statistical analysis, process simulation, and industrial engineering software tools.
  • A Team player who knows how to motivate a team to realize the next improvement.
  • A person who offers a true Bias for Action, you come, you oversee, and you start solving!
